How does this look for a 8.5cm hermanns? It's still temporary, my husband isn't keen on us having a tortoise so I did it all myself, we will build something more permanent in the winter, still the same place but something prettier and hopefully even bigger.

That looks great, Stacey! I'm trying to figure out the roof coming down so low...or is your enclosure up on the roof? I like that you put the board next to the wire fence, but am a little worried about the space between the board and the 'house'.

Thanks for your reply Yvonne. Our house/land is an odd shape this is actually at the back of our house (you need to go up some steps to get there), it's a bit out of the way but I put him here as we have a dog (and the 2 yr old in the pic), but at the top of the steps to get here we have a gate so the dog (or toddler) can't get through so he is safe. This was also a good place as with it being against the house and the fence the perimeter already has foundations.
I was considering blocking the sides of his house off but didn't think he could get down there as it's very narrow, I will have another good look at it tomorrow when I have more time. I did 'lose' him one day only to find that he had dug himself underneath the house...

Looks really nice. The only advice I can give is on the house. I bought it a few months back and never used it because it had a very strong aroma. I'm guessing they used cedar or redwood which can cause respiratory problems if in constant contact such as sleeping in the house. Don't know if you sealed it somehow or if you got a different brand. Just something to think about

Kevin - I have not noticed any smell and have just checked and it is made out of fir and plywood - will that be ok?

It looks nice. But as Yvonne mentioned. Hermanni do know how to escape.

Bouaboua - he shouldn't be able to escape - three sides of enclosure have walls going into the ground (part of house and fence) so no chance of digging there, the only part that worried me as a digging possibility was under the black board at the opposite end to the house, but this weekend I have lined that wall with ceramic tiles so he can't dig.

We must have different ones. Identical looking though . Yes it should be fine. You want to stay away from redwood and cedar. Maybe pine too.
