The BBC have a current campaign called 'dig it'. It is focused on growing food yourself to eat. For anyone with small children, you might be familiar with 'the green balloon club' shown on cebeebies. Ava loves the 'green balloon club' its about some kids who go in a green balloon to search for wildlife, plants, make and do and sing songs (in a nutshell). Guests include Bill Oddie and they have a kids version of spring watch and autumn watch to go with the show (it airs only on Sundays at 5pm but you can always catch it on BBC iplayer)

Anyway, as part of this event BBC is giving away free seed to people with small children. I guess there is no way of monitering if you have a child, grand child, neighbour, or niece/nephew. This year the seeds include basil, carrot, corgette, french beans and mixed salad leaves. The website also has handy tips for a good harvest! You complete the form online, and then they send the seeds and a little booklet with tips and info.

When you have grown it, you could even feed a bit to your tortoise!

Here is the link for anyone interested. Sorry everyone else, its just the UK. Got to be some perks of that TV licencing fee :p
