I purchased a Spur Thigh Tortoise A week ago and I haven't seen it eat and it keeps burying itself. The set up is correct. Temp is correct etc. I've tried turning temp down a little and bathing him and heating him again but still not taking food. Any ideas!?

Some people mistakenly refer to the sulcata tortoise as a "spru thigh." So to be sure we're talking about the same type of tortoise, are you saying you recently purchased one of the Graeca species of tortoise?

New tortoises take a while to settle in, however, some new keepers don't have the correct set up, and if a tortoise isn't being kept correctly he won't eat.

Please tell us a bit about how you are caring for your new tortoise:

lights
substrate
size of habitat
hiding places
water dish
type of food offered
temperatures all around the bottom of the habitat
where in the house the habitat is placed

Answers to these questions will help us determine if there is something wrong with the tortoise or if he doesn't eat because there is something wrong with his care.
