Split in sulcata shell

Can someone tell me what would cause my turtle shell to split? It's in the front about 1/8 of an opening. I'm new and don't know if I can upload pic of it.

In the subject line you refer to your animal as a sulcata. I'm afraid we're going to have to see a picture to know what you're talking about for sure. A "split" to you might be a totally different thing to one of us and we don't want to give you wrong info.

Its really hard to say, a photo would definitely help. I think I know what your talking about but I would hate to give you the wrong info with out knowing for sure...
