I recently noticed an area on my Russian tortoise’s carapace / bridge that is missing part of the outermost layer. I am keeping it off substrate and keeping it clean and treated (no odor detected so far), but I would like your thoughts on whether it’s the result of a recent injury, infection, or something else. Thanks in advance!

I'm having a hard time orienting where on the tortoise this is. At any rate, athlete's foot cream won't cause harm.

If the athletes foot cream doesn't seem to help, you can switch to antibiotic cream.
It won't heal fast so do one cream for about 2 weeks, apply daily and washing it off before reapplying. If you see it looking better then keep doing it until it is healed or looks like its sealed/healed up.

Thank you so much for your responses. I will try other types of medication if I don’t see results.
