Question about the winky?

Hey, so as you all now know Tank showed him self last month. He now continues to do it regularly, he was just doing it again but this time he got dirt all over his stuff haha. I put him in water to wash off but I can't always be there so is it ok to get dirt all over it.

When male tortoises are becoming sexually mature, they sometimes put out their penis and play with it a bit. They will continue to do this for a month or so, every so often, until they get used to the idea. It really doesn't matter if it gets dirty. When the penis retracts, most of the dirt comes off. I have never seen a problem with dirt build-up inside the sheath.

Ok thanks. Sounds good. So is he able to mate now or that is still years away he's only two.
