Hi,

Meet Ellie, 1 year old Leopard tortoise. Ellie has the cutest personality and is very determined. Ellie loves hotwater bottles, sunshine, lettuce and spinach but despises apples and strawberries.

Ellie has (supervised) visits with her feline siblings who are fascinated with her and just want to be where Ellie is.

Ellie loves to stretch her legs out fall asleep in the strangest of places.

She is our first pet tortoise and would love some tips on keeping her happy and healthy

I hate to say it, but at this age, you really can't accurately tell the gender, but Ellie might be an Ellis!
Ideally, they should consume a high fibre diet of hay, dark lettuces, and greens such as collards, kale, and turnip, mustard, and dandelion greens, along with various vegetables, including squash, corn, peppers, carrots, prickly pear cactus, and sweet potatoes.
Give added calcium for shell development, in the form of a light sprinkling of calcium powder, or calcium block (cuttlefish is also an idea). Bathe daily, and provide water to drink...

Thank you so much for the advice.

These pictures are recent? Have you had Ellie for a year, or just gotten her as a "year old" tortoise?

Can we see her enclosure and can you tell us how she is kept, that is, the humidity level, temperature, substrate etc.? This is so we might have any useful suggestions for you as to any improvements needed.
