I think my Chloe here is a boy! She/he is a little over 5 years and a bit over 18" plastron length. She has been outdoors for 2 years and has skyrocketed in growth since then. I was hoping for a nice 100lb female but for the last 2 years she has been looking more boyish.

I am glad that most of you think she is a girl. Though males are so impressive when they get older. She tends to tuck her tail to the side a lot. When I adopted her from some kids who lost interest 4 years ago her tail always seemed a bit linked to the side.

For sure female. Look at the orientation of Walking Rock's anal scutes (the scutes on either side of the tail), then look back at Chloe's anal scutes. Point out = male...pointing in or straight back = female.

Female. You can just see the tiny nub tail in the pic.

Wow! Thanks again for all the expert advice! I knew it was in the anal scutes but I have nothing to compare it to. I consider myself a reptile aficionado but I have virtually no experience with tortoises! I worked in the reptile business in new jersey for over 20 years. Turtles and tortoise are illegal for sale there! Silly laws! Now I live in San Diego. I knew I was destined for a tortoise!
