He's getting so big!

I weighed and measured Chug today. He's 2410 gms (5.3lb)! And 10 inches SCL!

That boy has gained 2 lbs since I got him in Aug 2017.

He hasn't yet proved that he is male, but he has chin glands and other male attributes.

He's a Desert Tortoise, Sonoran, maybe 13-15 yrs old.

Two pounds? A monster.

How much could he end up weighing? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a desert tortoise all the way grown, so to speak. Lots of rescues and a few in the actual desert but none very large, imo.

They are usually up to 14 in and 12 lbs.

A friend of mine has an at least 30 year old that's close to that size.

The big one is Gramps, two years ago. The little one is Chug when I got him. Their previous keeper housed them together with no problem, but Chug was not mature. As you know, they are now living apart.

The 2nd pic is Chug now. Hard to compare, but that is a 9" x 13" baking dish he's in.

I love these tortoises, they are just so "earthy" looking.
