Hi,I live in South Eastern Florida, and I think that my Female Homes Hinge Back tortoise has shell rot. I am not one hundred percent sure if it is-she has dry and flaky "skin" on the sides of her shell, right above where her legs are.
I did not get her as a hatchling,or even as a young tortoise;my father brought her home since the man who previously owned her mistreated her and lied about her age. We took her to Underground Reptiles and a specialist estimated her age to be around twenty. That was four years ago.She has a diet that consists of romaine lettuce, yellow squash, zucchini, grated carrots, apples, the occasional pear or other fruit that happens to be available, and maybe some boiled chicken.
I know that she should have more protein in her diet, but she usually refuses to eat new foods. Would adding new food help her? I take her out for about half an hour several times a week. Any advice will be deeply appreciated.
Thanks!!
