The flower is a pinky-purple with 5 petals

Sorry you had no replies, I may have missed it as I have a Greek and no Hermann's.
And my plant id's moderate at best.
But I think you're right.
It looks like Geranium carolinianum to me, checking with google.
I understand that all geraniums are safe for tortoises, so it should be fine.

Yes to the Geranium. To the right of it, is a very similar-looking leaf, but it is a Ranunculus - don't feed that - buttercups are toxic.
