Judging by the gular, I think it probably really IS a female, but "chocolate"???? Probably just very dirty. Bad thing is, they're keeping it in with a desert tortoise and a redfoot tortoise.

That's what I have noticed...a lot of people who are selling their torts have mixed species in one area. That's too bad.
