This question is going off of another person's post about sulcatas. I was wondering if it was equally impossible to tell a Russia's age based on shell growth. I have had Chompy 2.5 years and he was this big when I got him. His shell is about 5" long. At the least is it possible to say a range of age?

We can pretty much give an educated 'guess' that a Russian tortoise bought at a pet store is from 8 to 15 years of age. They are usually not quite full grown when caught and brought here.

Your tortoise looks full grown to me, so it is older than about 15 years. Some reach maturity younger than that, some older. But that's about the 'goodest' guess your gonna' get.

I'm fond of saying 4-40 is the most likely range. But there is really no way to tell if you tortoise is more than 100 years old.
