    He's a Mojave Desert Tortoise I believe. Gopherus agassizii. He's very friendly and always curious about any activities in his yard. Loves to eat. And sleep. Amazing animal. It's like having a dinosaur in the yard.

    There may not be an off season for dandelions. I grew these in four inch pots from Italian seeds... http://www.growitalian.com/dandelion-dente-de-leone-50-1/ Plus this variety is not as bitter as wild dandelions and you can use them in your salad!

    Hi - I read through some threads on feeding olives to tortoises. Sort of inconclusive. I was wondering though if anyone has had any experience with feeding olive leaves to a desert tortoise (Gopherus). Thanks for any info. (Great site for learning about tortoises! Thanks! Love reading...

    So glad to hear this. I have tons of fig leaves! And grape leaves too. Has anyone had any experience with olive leaves? Thanks! Starting dandelions ! Leave it to the Italians to package seeds!
