Jacob, I'm just now about to finish my degree and I can tell you that you will make some many friends your freshman year that you won't even know what do with them all! That was the best year of my life! Are you going to live in the dorm? Either way, with plenty of land and cool animals, you'll...
Make one! Heat tape/cable + thermostat + any size cooler/minifridge/freezer = A large incubator perfect for your needs! Check out this site for instructions: http://www.arbreptiles.com/cages/incubator.shtml
I always heard that the hovabators fluctuate a lot depending on room temp, but I've...
From what I have heard all turts/torts "can" carry it but by simply washing your hands and not putting them in your eyes or mouth you should all be fine! Maybe someone else could elaborate a little more....???
I actually have had several years of Spanish and I can say that I am "Proficient" but not perfect. I have traveled to Central and South America and my Spanish was very useful. Unfortunately, I agree that as Americans we have been spoiled by our democratic ways and we feel that everyone should...
I don't know about the biggest, my snakes can pass some pretty good ones though. A few days ago I woke up at 4:30am (ish) because I smelled something so foul I thought one of my animals had died! After searching for a few min the only thing I found was urate about the size of a quarter! But OMG...
I have another question, I have an outdoor area left over from my box turtles but here in Central AR it typically gets up in the 90's-100's in the summer. Is this too hot for a redfoot? The humidity is typically very high during the summer so that would be fine but I'm worried about the temps.
Thanks everyone! I will be putting together a proper enclosure this weekend. For now it is in a 40g tank with a 90F hot spot in one corner. I've started raising the humidity and spraying the shell a lot! He/she is really outgoing and cute! I've fed it dark greens and a couple mealworms so far...
Well it is right in the middle of finals week and I was just given a juvie redfoot because the previous owner didn't want it :(. I read the care thread on here and the one on Turtletary.com but to tell you the truth it's a lot to take in and a little confusing to me. Could anyone tell me the...
Well I'm glad everyone is having such fine weather. The rest of us poor souls down south are enjoying our flash floods, tornadoes, hail, constant rain for the past week!
Hey! I'm from AR as well! Let us know how it goes with that rescue place. I've taken in several random creatures in my time and would be willing to help or refer people to a reputable establishment, because I can't take in everything :(, it would be nice to know there are other good people...
Josh, I agree with Tom. It's better to spend a little more now just so that you know you will be getting a healthy baby that will live a long life. I, and many others, can attest to the reasons for not buying from the average peddler or trader. These people will help you make a good choice. You...
Wow that is truly amazing! Why can't things like this happen to me lol. Have there been any reports of sulcatas in the wild around there? I know I've read articles about them in AZ and I think one in Vegas but not sure. I doubt this is the case but something to think about. I would just put up...
As Tom says, it is possible but both parents have to be heterozygous for the trait since albinism is recessive. That would give you a 25% chance per egg that the hatchling will be albino. Hopefully with the amount of eggs tortoises lay, if you have het parents, you will hit at least one!
Thats sad that the little one was in such a small enclosure. I too find it interesting that here (central AR) the Fish and Game keep trying to rebuild our alligator populations and yet we can go to shows and buy 30 of them for $100 each??? I actually told a FG guy to come to a show with me and...
I had trouble with this when I first started using tanks. I covered about 85-90% of the screen top with Plastic wrap, kept moist moss around the tank (make sure to spray it often), and then when that wasn't enough during the winter months I laid a towel over the plastic wrap and that seemed to...
