I agree with you both. I went out today and found a higher quality tub, and the cc turned out (and smells) great. I think the original tub came from China and there's not a whole lot of regulation going on there.

I bought a large black plastic tub for my one-year-old sulcata and built a top for it to create a closed chamber. I let the tub heat up without substrate or tortoise in it (checking the thermostat). When I opened the lid, a really strong plastic smell hit me in the face. I'm nervous...

I've been feeding small amounts of this cactus to my sulcata. He loves it and I haven't noticed any ill effects. It's cheap and grows fast--seems like a great menu item.

Our sulcata, Duncan Donut, is our first. He is 7 months old and is 114 grams. After looking at some of the threads about pyramiding, I am afraid it has started already. He seems to be developing deep grooves between scutes. Any thoughts or insights? He has been raised exclusively outside...
