I woke up my four CDT's over the weekend in SO Cal. The weather has been so up and down I delayed. Oh, the joy! I saw the first poop in the pen this morning so three more to go.
How weird is it that I am looking for tortioise poop in the morning? I know this group will understand.

I pulled these two in from outside and popped them into a warm bath. Nothing fancy just their standard soak.
They settled down and after a few moments the one on the left began to move his front legs and shift about like he was trying to climb out. It was a little deep so I picked him up...
For 25 years I have ignored my back yard and paid a gardener. Get a couple of CDTs and now I am planting and fighting bugs and worrying about pesticides.
I put in some hybiscus and a Chinese Lantern among others so now I have snails, whitefly and aphids.
I talked to a Master Gardener and...

I have two CDTs, Gordo and Twitch, who really want to hibernate. They are 3-3.5 years old and the former owner told me they have gone down before. This is my first time and boy am I nervous. They stopped eating a few weeks ago and both of them have lost weight. Twitch was at a high of 322 grams...
I am putting together a bigger indoor enclosure for Gordo and Twich for when they can't be outside. They are in a concrete mixing tub right now. I went shopping at the Goodwill and I might have overbought: 7.5 feet long, 34 inches wide and 16 inches deep. I SWEAR it wasn't that big at the store...
I don't know if you remember but several months ago a member in Arcata CA posted that she wanted to rehome her two CDTs to a better climate. I am the new owner of the two babes. I had to drive up last week for school and brought them home.

One of my CDTs is growing a lot slower then the other. On 5/1 they were 205g and 96g. Members suggested bullying and Yvonne suggested visual barriers. I put in the barriers like she suggested and have had some growth. They are now 230g and 107g. They have been on Spring mix, cactus, dandilion...
The flowers are on long stems way above the plant.
The flowers are in clusters.
The leaves are smooth edged at the top and have jagged edges close to the stem.
The two CDT ignore it but should I be pulling it out?
I am not very good with plant ID. Unless the they come with labels I...
Nothing like an afternoon soak.
We like that the tub is big enough to share
Overhead shot
There is quite a size difference between the two. They are clutch mates. In mid Nov they were both less then 50 grams. As of 3/28 they were 166 and 83. They are housed together and share the...
So my two babes are doing well:
But we just noticed this on the neck of the larger one:
It almost looks like the scraped his neck on the edge of his shell.
Any thoughts?
My babes are not sick. They are doing well but I need to line someone up just in case. I have two CDT that are about 4 months old. I have heard good things on the forum about Dr. Greek but I just don't like his motto:

If you can get it in the door...
Hi everyone, I am the happy owner of two CA Dessert Torts. I got them from a backyard breeder and they hatched 9/28/10. I recevied them on 11/17 and they both weighed under 50 grams. I have been reading the forum since the day they came home but never introduced myself.
Their names are Click...
