What is the lowest tolerable temperature that I can hibernate my boxie at? She is native to the area so I was thinking that I might be able to just put her enclosure outside for the winter. I have never really messed with hibernating her before. She was always kind of free to roam and do as she...
Ok, heres the deal..... I got 2 baby sulcatas about 3 or 4 months ago and they are doing great. They were about the same size when i got them. Just a little bit bigger then a golf ball. Sparty is growing like a weed and Max is just kind of growing. Sparty is about twice the size he/ she was when...
I have had a boxie for going on 6 years now and i love her to death. Jimmy has been dubbed the house turtle and is usally roaming free in the house. The only time I put her up is to eat, drink and to hibernate. They are very easy to take care of and will eat most fruits, veggie and lots of bugs.
I have also heard that cinnamon works to keep ants away but didn’t know if the torts would eat it or if they did would they get sick. It would be hard to plant enough mint to keep them away I live on lots of land in the woods. The tort table is currently on the 2nd floor deck. The coffee...
Dose anyone know how i can keep the ants out of my tortoise tables? There not fire ants or any thing i still don't want them in there climbing all over my torts and turtle.
I had my hingbacks shipped via fedex. I wouldn't recomend haveing it done that way. When the driver got here he was spinning the box like a basketball and it was clearly marked live animal-reptlie. I about tore the guy a new a**hole. You can however get thim shipped via the airlines and not have...
Welcome from another Texan,
Wow! 36 in. I can't wait for my babies to get big. They are only about a year old right now. Post some pics if you geta chance. I'd love to see them. Hope to see you around!
I’ve read and feed my sulcatas only carrots and cucumber as far as veggies go. They get one or the other in very small quantities. About 10% of there diet in all. They get a mixture of kale and greens in the morning and then go out side into the flower box to munch on clover, Bermuda, and...
I'm from all over. Lived in Cali and Texas mostly. Right now I live close to Austin, TX. It got the best of every thing. Rolling hills, big lakes, great night life, nice and hot in the summers and no really cold weather. Perfect for the babies!
I have always had RES and box turtles. For as long as I can remember my mom would find turtles on the side of the road and bring them home so they wouldn’t get hit. We would have them for a while and then eventually they would dig out of the yard. I had rescued a RES from a friend in high...
Wow! She is beautiful. I was just wondering how you keep her from digging out of the yard? My Sulcatas are just babies but I’m already pondering this. I’ve read about how they can plow thru fences and decks. I’d be heart broke is I lost my babies.
Welcome to the forum...
I have a tort that is really lazy to. I maybe only see him out of his tort box once a week or so. It just goes along with the breed. I just keep a close eye on the food i put down for him and watch his water to make sure he is drinking. Worf only comes out at night. When i do see him in the day...
I take my daughter to the Austin Zoo pretty regularly and they do have a very nice setp for it being that small. It just a shame they don't have enough room to seed it and let them graze. With the size of Tortoies I'd be willing to be they could eat that much grass in a day or 2...lol... But you...
No, the wood is so thick thatwe will get a good 5 or 6 years out of it. By then it will be time to move Worf into a green house . Plus we made the whole thing so that we can eaisly replace sections or move it from the portch. There is only like 6 screws that hold the walls and top to the base...
I'm not sure what the brand is of mine off the top of my head but i do know that it says UVB on the bulb. If it is one of the bulbs that screws in like a light bulb then it is for sure not UVB. All The UVB's that I have seen are the long tube like bulbs.
