    leopard hide / pyramiding

Titus is 3 now. The time has come for a new hide for our tortoise. He has outgrown his old one. I wanted to see what some of you are using for your indoor hides. His table humidity in the winter time is around 16%. I have read about some people using sponges inside the hides. But can't...

    couple questions

Salmonella is definetly a concern. Titus and the boy(Will) have not had any direct contact yet. There is sanitizer next to the enclosure. Any time we handle Titus we immediately sanitize after. Between that and my wonderful wife that loves to keep things clean we are hopefull there will be no...

    couple questions

Well just wanted to write a positive post since there seem to be alot of negative/sick posts in the leopard thread. Titus had to go thru another round of injections after they actually got the anesthetics(sp?) to work. The test results said he had a pretty strong bug. He had to have a...

Help and advice for a rookie....

I personally have searched high and low on the internet. Most the info in my area is out of date(Vets have moved). We have also called vets for recommendations in our area. I would love to have a star tort and also build an aquatic enclosure but I refuse until I am 100% confident in a vet...

Help and advice for a rookie....

My advice would be to look into a vet. Not because I think your tortoise will be sick. But my wife and I have had a extremely hard time finding a vet we like. We have seen 4 and still are not really confident in any of them. It definetly has been the hardest thing for us.

    couple questions

Ok, So my wife reacted a little fast about the pink on the feet/legs. It seems one of the pieces of slate had some redish dust and it just kinda stained him. It came of with a toothbrush and some water. Yesterday the noise I hear when he is breathing was almost non existent. This morning...

    couple questions

Update: The vet was not able to anesthize Titus. Because of his size they could not give him an iv and none of the injectibles affected him. They prescribed a combination of Naxcel and Amikacin to fight pnuemonia. We have been doing the shots for two weeks, and are continuing for a third. He has...

    couple questions

So, we are still dealing with our problem. We have been to several Vets. We were first prescibed to give him 10 shots of Fortaz. Then another batch of 10. Xrays were done after those shots did not clear him up. They showed us a spot in the xray in his lungs. And then prescribed 10 shots of...

    Redfoot and Stars w/Hibiscus

Ok thanks all. That is what I figured you would say. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't another reason. My leopard is still pretty small. So maybe the plants will grow at a similar rate and we won't have to fence them in.

    Redfoot and Stars w/Hibiscus

Redfoot NERD and others....I have seen alot of people put some kind of fencing around their plants. I was wondering what the reason was for doing this?

    Treated lumber

So I started on my outdoor enclosure. I am using railroad ties for the border. Our leopard has this habit though. He always walks to the edge. Whether it is a barrier or a wall. He walks up to it an always takes a bite at it. Doesn't matter what it is. Rock, Brick, drywall, plastic, etc...

plants for a new outdoor leopard enclosure

I see now that hostas are on the list now. I didn't see them before. We have several different kinds of hosta on our property. I thought previously I had heard they were toxic though. Has anyone had issues with them?

plants for a new outdoor leopard enclosure

Thanks Anja. I have read it before. My problem was there were so many listed and I have almost no experience with plants. I didn't know which ones would live in my area.

plants for a new outdoor leopard enclosure

Hi all. I'm planning/designing a new outdoor enclosure for our leopard Titus. I haven't even decided the area we are going to use but I am trying to do some research on what to plant. We are in between zone 5-6 in the USA. I have seen numerous posts that tortoises like Hibiscus but...

Leopard size/weight in relation to age

Terrypin.. Did you actually plant the plants in the photos. Those pictures have motivated me to try and make a better outdoor area for my leopard. What kinds of plants are they. My leopard is still pretty small but I would imagine it would take some time to create something that nice looking...

    couple questions

We have a Leopard and he/she is just over one year old. I just noticed last night when you listen to him breathe you could hear something in the exhale. Kinda sound like congestion to me. Maybe it is normal and I never noticed before. No bubbles. Is this something I should be concerned with...

    leopard hatchling question

When our Leopard was that young. He(or she) always tried to get out. We started with a glass aquarium. I had read they would try to get out of clear places. So I put a strip of tape around the base so he couldn't see out. He thought he could climb over the tape. And would flip over alot...
