We have her in a 32 gallon tank at the moment. She is still fairly small. We are planning to build her a bigger enclosure. Probably once we have our baby and I will be able to help my husband with the heavy lifting. I will try adding some more interesting terrain and maybe some branches...
Anything I can do to entertain her more in her tank? I have done some reading and the consensus seems to be that they climb because they have become bored with their surroundings. I've thought about adding some plants but is there anything else I can do? It is not warm enough outside here to...
We are having a problem with our tort climbing on top of her log, today she did it again and I noticed it as she was trying to climb back down and she fell and landed upside down on her shell. she seems alright and was walking around her tank for a while after I turned her back over. My worry...
I bought a berry fruit salad at my local grocery store and it has blueberries in it. However I don't really care for them and was wondering if I could feed them to my red foot tortoise so that none of it goes to waste?
Tortellini is doing great and growing a lot! A lot more active some it started warming up again. Soon Torti will be able to get some outside time again :)
I was so excited to find some dandelion greens at my local grocery store today, and since I didn't have anywhere to get then before I was wondering do they freeze well so I can have fresh dandelion greens to feed my redfoot this fall/ winter?
Are pansies or violas ( Johnny jump ups) all the same flower and are they safe to feed a red foot?
Attached is a photo of the flowers I have I believe they are violas
Tortellini is doing very well, he eats a lot. The last time I weighed him he was 170 grams and today he weighed in at 182 grams. :) he is much more sociable and has taken to sunning himself in the afternoons. We changed our substrate from forest floor to coco coir and orchid chips. Tortellini...
That is what I had to do with my rf tort the first few days I had him, now he comes out on him own and eats and drinks on his own at those times. They become more social, it just takes time. They are adjusting to new surroundings, sounds and people
I've seen people who plant live plants in their tortoise tanks to provide hiding places, etc. I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions on what kind of plants are good for that? I use a substrate called forest floor right now ( basically shredded wood chips or mulch) but I have some coco coir...
I have seen people feed their tortoises hibiscus flowers and dandelion greens. My question is where are you getting them? Are you growing it yourself or is there a place I can buy them fresh, that is still safe and pesticide free? Also is hibiscus just a treat or is there nutritional value for...
My red foot is around 1-2 years old according to the store I bought it from is it normal for it to sleep this much when it's older? I try to wake tortellini up when I put in fresh food in the morning and to make sure he drinks or soaks and the same thing in the evening, I feel like he should...
I will have to get some of the Eco earth, it seems to be popular. I also have sphagnum in the tortoises log, tortellini likes to burry himself in it. It holds moisture very well.
