    Sexing My Sulcata

Thanks Yvonne! I though he was male but just wanted to be sure. Thanks for all of the useful information you have shared with me. My intention as a mate is to mate/breed not as in a pal to be chummy with. I agree with keeping the male from constantly trying to breed to female as that's just not...

    UVB light question.

To answer MikeH. I know it is recommended to leave it on for 10-12 hours a day. Nothing wrong with that. I know that in the wild and inside a home tortoises spend most of their time in the shade. Therefore they don't get the UVB from a bulb for most of that 10-12 hours. I said I removed the hide...

    UVB light question.

I would buy the UV-B Mercury Vapor Light and use that for an hour or so on most days. I actually block the hide while the light is on so they definitely get the UV-B exposure.

    26 yr. old Female Leopard

I contacted this lady as well via email. She said she would not ship. I would only recommend seeing and buying in person. I agree, the "deal" seemed too good to be true. People would jump on a plane for that deal on her!

    Ramps...

My fault. I typed in Golden Greek and got two posts. "Elmo is 4.5", "Is he a Russian?" and "No, he's a Golden Greek". I figured this was about the size of a Golden Greek. Next time I will make sure to thoroughly check the entire thread before posting. Thanks for your advice and it is well taken...

    Gopher tortoise in Louisiana

That's so great. I have done this since I was a kid. I used to make the bus driver stop so I could safely relocate a Florida Gopher Tortoise when I was a young boy. Long live the TORTS!!! :) Starkey Park in New Port Richey always has several. I see them every time in the evening when riding my bike.

    Gopher tortoise in Louisiana

I live in central Florida and can tell you that this a gopher tortoise breeding ground! They are everywhere that there is more than an acre of land. You actually have to be careful when traversing a field on foot because the holes are every where. My mom has just a 1/4 acre and there has always...

garden veggies? (corn, husks, stalks, beans)

I'm going to feed my sulcata some corn husks today for the first time. I'm going to cut them into smaller pieces b/c I'm not sure how well they will digest. I think they will go through more like grass, but maybe he can get a little fiber from this roughage! I'll post how it went in and came...

    Abnormal scutes...

I personally believe that a "zippered scute" tortoise will grow up to be just fine! I wonder if the calcium, potassium, etc. levels in the mother at time of conception play a role? This does seem highly likely. I also believe that genetics may play a small role b/c those genes can be passed...
