Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say thank you for all the information and posts on this forum on habitats. I moved house last year and set about making the perfect enclosure for when Pedro came out of the fridge from hibernation. I was worried about him waking up and not thriving but he came...
Thanks everyone for reading and replying. I did get to speak to the owner a few weeks after poor Henry died and he said he'd never heard of mycoplasma before (strange for a tortoise dealer!) and from what he'd read he didn't think it was that serious (only causes cold like symptoms in people). I...
Me too....Pedro isn't interested in eating at any other time and any greens just wilt if I leave them out all day. His soaked pellets are still out in the middle of the day but I've never seen him touch them - only likes them fresh.
The pony and your wee girl made me smile...leave it in there! My Hermans is a bit pyramided too - I got him at 3 years old and I don't expect him to smooth out much as he's already 14cm so probably won't grow too much more. I just hope I can prevent it from getting worse. Other than his bumpy...
I have done a few animal behaviour studies at Uni and just quickly reading this don't know how they managed to distinguish the attraction between the keeper and the rubs/scratches they provided......would have to put in another variable with just keeper presence - no touching. I think it is...
I don't want to panic you or anything Jeffjeff but I had a baby Russian I got in March from an online breeder/supplier in the UK. He would be the exact same age as your baby tort now if he had lived. He had reduced eating and subdued movements for a week before I took him to the vets and he had...
Maybe he's now trying to explore his surroundings rather than hide...he's getting flipped because he's not used to the area yet and keeps trying to climb the sides? My three year old tort did this when I first got him (he was rehomed) - it was like he was checking for ways out and tried climbing...
When I first got my tort in the summer I started him off on coco coir - the shredded stuff and found it made him very sneezy and made him rub his eyes a lot. Thinking he had an allergy or something I went straight to the shops and got him some of the grass pellets his previous owner raised him...
Well, my tort was solely fed on the Komodo pellets for 3 years before I got him. He still turns his nose up at everything except live clover (I now have to grow a lot!). He's used to eating the pellets I but I also suppose for any animal they will naturally select the most energy dense food out...
Hi everyone,
Just an update......I tried out the MVB when Pedro was in his playpen for a couple of hours and I felt much more confident in using it and what height to set it away from. Anyway.....Pedro was having a bit of an "off" spell and just nibbling at food for the last week or so. An...
My Herman's didn't eat for about 36 hours after we got him, he just spent the whole of that time checking out his new enclosure and digging. I also found he didn't like his pellets mixed with greens, put them on separate plates and he has a little bit of each. If I mix them he sniffs and walks...
I was looking up these type recently....from Ikea? They do a much larger version than this but about double this price. I saw a few on the online classifieds for second hand so maybe worth you checking out your local pages?
Oh he likes doing headers...Anything I put in his enclosure he managed to scale up and then jump off the top head first without a care. I'm watching him to see what he does and if he does like diving into the pool then I'll try and make something with bits of stuff lying around ( I have some...
