Sorry for the late reply, it's been a busy day! I moved Ozzy out of the room and into our bathtub with a heater going for now. The room has already aired out quite a bit, and even though she stayed in the room overnight she seems to be perfectly fine! I'm keeping an eye on her though. Thank you...
Earlier I painted the room where I keep my red-footed tortoise's enclosure, and it was only after going back into the room after taking a break did I realize how strong the paint smell was. I honestly wasn't even thinking before I started painting that it could be dangerous for her. The worst...
Thank you guys! This was stressing me out but your suggestions are very helpful, thanks so much! Since it probably won't be any colder than 70 degrees in the room where she'll be staying, I think she'll probably be fine without a heat lamp. :)
I am moving in less than two weeks. I have a 4-year old redfoot tortoise living in a 6ft x 4ft enclosure, an enclosure that we are going to have to dismantle for the move! I need something to keep my tortoise in for 2-3 days, while we are moving her enclosure, rebuilding it and setting...
@ Wendy Proulx I tried succulents like that, but my tort ate them down to the substrate!! XD
@ blakebeyer Oh my gosh your enclosure is beautiful!!! I have so many spider plants I could plant, but my tort would just dig them all up or eat them down to the root! Maybe I should try again? If the...
I definitely don't plant anything directly into the substrate... Tried that a while back and instantly regretted it lol. Somehow, all these plants are managing to die in their pots!
I'll get right to the point. Every plant I put in my tortoise's enclosure dies! The only plant that seems to survive the heat/humidity are pothos, but my tort loves to OBLITERATE pothos plants whenever I put them in, so I usually avoid them. Otherwise, I've tried spider plants (because I have 5...
Both great ideas, thank you guys so much! I decided to try and put the temp gauge down in the substrate for a more accurate reading, and after an hour or so it now says that the temp under the basking area is at 86. It's better if it's hotter though, isn't it? I like the thermostat idea...
I have a 40-gallon breeder tank that I set up almost a week ago. I'm trying to get everything ready for when my hatchling arrives, (Tuesday) but I'm having some serious problems getting the tank hot enough.
Details: 40-gallon breeder tank, home-made screen lid covered with aluminum foil...
I love the way your tank looks, that's exactly what I was going for! Definitely stealing some ideas from you if you don't mind~
I found a $10 CHE online that I'm leaning toward. If heat is more important than basking, then I think that might be the best choice for me, so I can just leave it on...
[Edit 5/17] New question! My 75w CHE arrived, I placed it on top of the enclosure, and its barely emitting any heat into the tank. (To clarify, the lamp is definitely functional, and the bulb ITSELF is getting plenty hot, I can't even touch it, but the temp in the tank is not going up at all.)...
