Do you have a picture? Mac's original heat sources have apparently failed (pig blanket and/or the radiant heat panel) and we will be replacing the heating. Thanks!
Thanks Joe! I hope it is something benign like that. His lack of responsiveness to my sister is troubling. He actually usually comes when called (in hopes of getting a nice treat).
Hi! I wrote a few years ago when I moved a sulcata from NM to AZ. My sister reports today that Mac (approx 17 yo now) took some bok choy and then waved his head back and forth. He also is being standoffish to my sister. She believes she might have seen blood. This is the first time for this...
Hello Big Bert (I like the name). You can find my posts concerning Mac's move on this forum. I have used the expertise on this forum extensively to prepare Mac for his move as well as his enclosure there. Glad you have found the expertise as well! Lots of love to you and Lil Sis. There are...
Hello, Tom, "Bert" and our other tortoise friends. I have Mac as my profile picture and you all followed the chronicles of moving Mac from NM to AZ back in March. Tom, we made the hot house like you suggested - radiant heat over the pig blanket, thermostatically controlled. Because neither...
We predug a burrow for Mac in a place that we wanted him. He loves it! It isn't as fancy as Tom's but he uses it most of the time right now (Tucson area). I think this is a safe solution (watch out for rain washes though).
Apparently he has gotten quite pushy with my sister when she is giving him food. I suggested no more hand feeding for this guy! He weighs more than she does!
I have a hard time photographing Mac from ground level as he comes running toward me if I'm in the enclosure with him. I can do it if he is preoccupied with eating - although he seems to think I must have something better than what his is eating and will usually abandon his food to approach me...
I've suggested to my brother-in-law not to encourage potentially bad behavior by showing a yummy head of bok choy above the enclosure wall. I, too, am concerned that once Mac starts a undesirable behavior, more construction will be the only solution.
Such a lovely tortoise! Thanks so much for sharing! My Mac decided that it was going to be too cold in the other night and voluntarily went to his heated house rather than into his burrow. I love these guys!
