Thank You Tom. Yeah I just hired someone and gave them a link to your build. Cool thing is they have 14 tortoises and never have been on this site. Hopefully he becomes a new member.
Hate to say it but I just don't have the time to build one right now. Every time I find one for sale on CL etc they are more like dog houses. I would love to buy one from someone in socal that makes them roughly like Toms guidelines. I almost have my new outdoor enclosure finished but the House...
Although they havent had them for my last couple trips the 99 cent store carries them as well. They have a bag of 4-5 mid size pads and they remove the needles. I know people say you dont have to remove them but i like to. I get a lot of greens there and they are all 99 cents :)
Hey guys I have a Kane heat mat with rheostat 18x18 that has never been used. I bought it in hopes to build an out door house. I ended up just housing my tortoises indoors at night. I live in Riverside, CA and would prefer a local deal first but I can always ship if one doesnt come up...
I just throw some out in the yard on a concrete patio. Sometimes they eat it a lot and other times they will leave it alone for a week. I like how they get to choose when they eat it unlike putting calcium on their food and forcing the intake even if they already had too much.
They had an owl in a tiny cage with a moldy piece of bread along with a sulcata tortoise with deformed pyramiding about 10 inches big. Asking 400 each or was willing to take a dirt bike as a trade.
I think this question comes up sometimes because certain areas in the country have a lot of wild rabbits and people post pics of them hanging out with the torts. I agree with u a 100 percent though that it should have its own enclosure.
