I have a russian tortoise, he is about 8 years old and I have had him over a year. He has grown a lot since I have had him! He is getting new shell, and has been since I got him. I lost him in my backyard this summer for about 6 weeks, and when I found him he had a lot of new, soft shell. It's...
I have a Russian tortoise. This summer, he went on an adventure and was lost in the backyard for 6 weeks! He ate so much, that when we found him, he had new shell growing! It's been six months, and it dosen't seem to be hardening, if anything, it keeps growing. Is this slow growth normal?
I have a Russian tortoise. He lives inside the house, and I take him out of his enclosure to walk around the house and eat his food. I've noticed lately that his nails are long, and they hurt when i grab him. Should I take him to the vet to get it done or is it something I can easily do, and if...
Yes, I will quarantine the other before. I will probably put him in a seperate cage from what I'm hearing from you guys. I won't force them on each other soon. I'm still quiet new to this, all all the research I have done, I have gotten both extremes.
Thanks so much for the advice, I might do a trial-run to see how it goes. Im not sure what the other tort is. My friend is just trying to rehome him. Maybe they will get along, but I see your point.
Sheldon, whom I have had for two months, all the sudden had very nasty diarrhea. His diet is loucious greens, peas, green peppers, etc.. I came home from school and he smelled so gross! He is running around fine though. What happened? and how do i get him to stop smelling...?[/font]
Try feeding him once a day, for twenty minutes. Only give him as much as he can eat during the time period. He sounds like he eats a yummy meal! Good luck!
Russian tortoises useally go for the food they are familiar too. It took mine a bit, but I slowly introduced him to peas, broccoli, tomato, and green pepper! He does love his roman lettuce, but try some of those foods!
I got a russian tortoise for Christmas. They said she wasn't full grown and so I named her Shelly. Turns out HE is 7 years old, Shelly is now Sheldon. LOL
I just got my russian tortoise too! I took him to the vet, and she suggest his diet consit of many leafy greens, about 85%. Fruits and other veggies (peas, tomato, broccoli) should be 15% also, fed him once a day for twenty minutes. Torts are meant to eat large amounts in a little time. Hope...
Thanks so much everyone! I made it out to the store tonight and I got her coconut fiber, I've heard it's good. I put a tad bit of sand in her far corner, but other than that its a mixture of coconut fiber and mulch. She seems to love it! Thanks again!
Her names Shelly :) I never would have thought of eBay and amazon! Thanks so much for the help!
Also, are Tortoise really climbers? She moved everything around in her Cage last night, I had to get up and help her becuase she was stuck! LOL

I got a russian tortoise yesterday. Since I live where it snows, she must remain indoors right now. I need enclosure suggestions, I'm new to all this. It's 4x2.
