My little ornate finally tried some fruit -- banana.
I have been wondering when he would be interested in something more then crickets and finally I saw him pulling apart big chucks of banana tonight and that makes me so very happy that he is interested in something new!
Reptitherm Under Tank Heaters I am not finding them to be very reliable as I have had two bad experiences with them this year. I am sending back a model RH-6 that is only 2 months old as it just stopped working - I don't have the box or receipt so just sending it to let them know it failed more...
I use a product called Forest Floor. Seems to be working well for me the turtle likes to tunnel in it and the plants are doing well in it. Says its 100% cypress mulch its tan in color and is shredded up particals. I don't find it in the water to much as it doesn't stick to the turtle to bad...
With our little guy we had to actually hold the small sized crickets down in front of it for a little bit and shake it some -- we used these feeding tongs. It took about two minutes and then he hit it but he dropped it a couple times where we had to pick it back up and show it to him again but...
I just bought from them earlier this month and my baby Ornate arrived just fine very active and he was packaged well so I have limited experience with them but had no problems with my recent purchase and the person I dealt with was very nice.
Thanks every one for all the advice and my little turtle is so far doing very well. I found that he was confused by the glass on the tank and keep trying to push against it so I had to fix that so he couldn't see through and once i did that he was out and exploring his new home. Tonight he eat...
These are a little out of focus but here he is:
He eat two tiny crickets today that was all he would do -- tried some other food but since its his first full day atleast he ate something.:)

Thats good to know I wasn't sure how fast they actually outgrow a tank right now he...
Yes they are live but I am not sure how they will do as this is my first setup with live plants and my first turtle so I will see how it goes. I got a list off the forum of what was safe. They are Croton, Dracena, and then a birds nest fern in the corner by the half log and then just pet grass...
Thanks for the advice this is my first turtle -- I will fix the water dish -- I watched him all day to make sure he could access in and out but its a good idea to get it lower for him.:)
Trying out the picture thing.
Can't get his picture as he is dug in under the log underneath the light -- he likes it better then the half log hide we bought probably will remove that for more space.
My little Ornate arrived this morning at 9 a.m. He has inspected his new enclosure, took two nice long swims in the pool, and is currently dug under the basking long having a rest. Will be building an outdoor enclosure in the summer but for now this little guy (about the size of a 50 cent...
