So my tortoise just pooped this...

So today my roughly 5 inch female Russian pooped this. It's so long! It'd be about the same size as her if it was straight. I don't know if this is normal. What could be the cause? She's outside all day and sleeps indoors. She has a pretty well varied diet of weeds that she grazes on at will but...

    Mallow confirmation?

I'm crazy and need confirmation from you guys that this is mallow? Assuming my transplant doesn't continue to fail ;p ignore the snail slime all around it.

    Spring time

I thought this picture turned out kind of cute ;P I think it perfectly illustrates spring: new growth everywhere, sun, and Herschel's first rose of the season!

    Early Spring Upgrade

Herschel's rough looking (I know...it's not the prettiest haha, the frost killed A LOT of plants) outdoor pen more than doubled in size today. The little lady's getting big! We're slowly ripping up the entire old deck and converting it into her pen; it was very old and needed replacing anyways...

Still looking like a healthy female?

Hey guys, haven't posted in a while! My (I believe) female Russian has finally reached a pretty good size and I was wondering if she's still looking female. Her tail is still really stubby, but she does kind of hold it to the side sometimes. I'm amazed at how fast she's grown. Looking generally...

    Weed ID

So I know this is a common one, but I'm super paranoid about poisoning my tortoise haha. It has a milky sap. Safe to feed?

    Russian's first time outside overnight

Hey Tortoise Forum, I have a three ish year old Russian who's been in an outdoor pen all day for the last couple weeks (it's already in the early 90s here!). I'm wondering if I should leave her out for the first time overnight tonight. Hourly weather says the lowest it'll get is 57 degrees. I...

    :Blue Chalk Stick" Succulent

Hey guys, I'm finally planting my Russian's outside pen. Anyways, I just picked up this succulent along with some other plants (that I actually can ID, haha) and I can't find any info on it. I checked tortoisetable.org and couldn't find it. Is it tort safe? It looks like this...

    Tulip Tree?

Hi guys. So, this tree is in my backyard literally directly over my Russian's new-ish pen. Right now it's starting to bloom, and by next month the petals and what not will be literally covering the ground. Anyways, I don't know what it's called (I've only heard "tulip tree", which I have found...

    Constipation help

My Russian's been in her new winter enclosure for about a week now (she lived outside all summer) and I haven't seen any poop. She pooped during her soak the day before yesterday, but only a little. She's still eating like a pig (spring mix as a base, whatever green I pick up that week, weeds...

    Age Estimate

I've been on here a while now, but I've never asked this: I know it's impossible to tell without a hatch date, but can anyone give a good estimate as to how old you think my Russian is? Just out of curiosity (: Thanks! This was in july when I first got him.

    Good cactus?

On the way home from coffee today, like a crazy person, I made my boyfriend pull over so I could snag this cactus on the side of the road. It's pretty much spineless, and the tiny spines it does have easily come off. Is this opuntia/another variety my russian can have?

    Island of Tortoises

Forgive me if this has been posted before, a friend just sent it to me and I thought it was really cool. http://twentytwowords.com/2012/05/01/86-year-old-lives-alone-on-his-island-reintroducing-indigenous-giant-tortoises/

The bare bones of my first outdoor enclosure

Just starting an outdoor for my little Russian. Bad news is he won't be in it permanently until spring ;/ Good news is I have until spring to perfect it (; The house we moved into has an all concrete backyard, with the exception of a pool and deck area. The deck area is rotting away anyways...

    Odd question

So my Russian managed to drag a piece of his greens into his water dish, and I was wondering if torts can eat things submerged in water? Like, could they accidentally inhale water and cause problems? Just curious.

    Mulberry

This is probably a "duh" question, but I've been meaning to clarify for a long time. The mulberry leaves everyone feeds can just be from a plain old big, fruitless tree, right? I think the fact that the leaves secret a milky substance when picked just freaks me out, haha. Thanks in advance.

    Sexing/growth question

Okay, my turn: is my "little man" a male or female? I know he's still little and it's difficult to give more than a guess, but I'm curious as to what you guys think. Second question: I know he has some pyramiding. I've had him for just over two months, and he's been living outside with soaks...

    Sad things on craigslist.

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but I'm just hoping someone around here can help this little guy out. It just made me sad :/ I'd get him myself, but I really, really don't have the means to care for a water turtle right now. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/pet/3221191945.html
