    Try not to overfeed as you will cause accelerated growth and pyramiding. Aim for a nice even, smooth growth by feeding an amount that would cover the size of your tortoises shell. Most people make the mistake of overfeeding. Given half the chance they would eat all day when kept in a warm...

    RE: Western Hermann's vs. Eastern Hermann's How about my Hermanns, Norman? It's be great to get a second opinion.... I was told that he may well be a mixture of the two sub species.... what do you think?

    I find that bathing my hermanns every morning in warm water usually does the trick.... not too cold, not too hot.... baby bath temperature. Be wary of doing it too warm if they have only just woken up though.... give them 30 minutes or so to raise their body temperatures after sleeping.

    I too would be cautious of having the relative humidity too high for a hermanns as it may cause respiratory problems. They thrive between 40-60. I believe all that is require is a humid hide with sphagnum moss for the hatchlings to encourage smooth shell growth and prevent dehydration.

    You may find that he's still settling into his new environment.... some simply don't like change. You need to ensure that your temperatures are spot on in order for him to start eating. You need an ambient temperature of 20oc and your basking area should be at about 32-340c so that he can reach...

    Greetings!

    I am proud owner to a 2 year old male Hermanns, Norman. I only got him last Sept, so he's been overwintered in a torotise table, but he has a lovely outdoor enclosure all set up and ready to go when the weather (finally) warms up. ;)
