OK, so consensus so far tells me it's edible, but not very tasty as I want it for decor/sight barriers not food. So I take it that the berries (seeds) are not an issue?
Thanks for the info! ...but... Sorry, the answer was "N" as in "No" it is not toxic to animals according to that link. The "y=1 n=0" is not saying yes and no, it's their scoring system for shade tolerance, seed dispersement, life cycle, if it's palatable, density, etc. The toxic to animals...
I keep getting mixed answers throughout the internet on Mondo Grass(Ophiopogon japonicus). Is this plant safe or toxic for tortoises? It looks like a great plant for outdoor enclosures to provide shade/hiding spots.
It is not on any tortoise table list whatsoever. The plant does have tiny...
Drill starter hole using a drill, then use jigsaw. I doubt the jigsaw will get hot enough to melt as plastic cuts like paper with a decent blade. You can clean up edges with a rasp(file) if needed. Buying a cheap jigsaw is probably less $$$ than renting one at Lowes/Home Depot. Also, using a box...
I'll look into those. thanks![hr]
Thanks! Yes, it was a planter we gutted a few years ago but never replanted. I added the capping and stucco a few months back (pre-tortoise idea).
Thanks. Going over tons of websites rendered that Greeks need a dry substrate as they are sensitive to moisture (unless their hatchlings) though. Consensus says to use a mix of sand/soil, or aspen, or coconut fiber and to avoid pine, cedar, and cypress. [hr]
I think it's 18" tall in total...
I got mine at PetSmart as well. Bought not just the one I originally planned, but both Ibera Greek males that they had just added to inventory. I felt I had to rescue them from their tiny quarters. I've heard some horror stories like this...
how does one administer this food grade diatomaceous earth?
I never had ants at my house since until I recently acquired torts a couple weeks ago. I have a few ants meandering around in their outdoor pen. Not red, just typical black ants, but I don't want them to multiply. I think they came in...
good craftsmanship right there. Looks killer. I like how the soaking dish is recessed so it can't slide around, and the easy access hinges to the hide.
Hi, proud to post these pics up of my new enclosure for my two new Ibera Greeks. Sort of excited of my first build, but go ahead and tear me a new one, if needed. We saved these two Greeks from PetSmart, whom after researching for a few weeks I knew more than the employees. They looked healthy...
Looking for a safe/edible plant that gives off a tree-like impression (think bonsai looks or manicured boxwood bush)? I was at Disneyland the other day with my kids and on the Casey Jr. train the miniature towns had little boxwood bushes shaped into 12-18" trees. Although I know boxwood is toxic...
My name is Josh so people call me Josh. haha
I'm not too worried about heat for them, their hide is 70-75 at night and 85-90 during the day so far and it's been warm and sunny outside since we got them ...well until today, it's grey and misting. They have a few basking spots to choose from...
Hi. I just joined as I have just acquired two Ibera Greeks (most likely both male... yes, I know they might fight) and looking forward to advice on care. I've been exhaustingly researched all kinds of aspects/tort species over the past few weeks and decided on Greeks over Russians. For climate...
