Yes. I've been doing that for 5 years now. I have 10 free ranging Guineas and 7 free ranging chickens that roam my 5 acres.....They do a good job with the lawn and some wooded areas but they can't do everything.
Deer ticks, American dog ticks, and a small black type which i don't know the name of.....they are small like deer ticks, maybe just a baby dog tick....Not sure if any others...
Will do, I'm located in New York. It won't be finished for a couple months at most. I will be working on it a little at a time. Going to rent a bobcat loaded to clear some dead trees but the pain in the butt part is going to be fencing the top. I will need a 7 foot surrounding fence along...
I will be building my outdoor habitat soon for some eastern box turtles. The habitat will be in a wooded area simulating a natural environment. This wooded area is loaded with ticks. Will this be a problem? The area will be pretty big. Probably between 1600 and 4500 square feet. Any info...
For now I'm keying in on just the Eastern Box. Something I can keep outside in a huge habitat simulating real life conditions year round. So I will be hibernating them. I'm not a big fan of having a tort or turt that I have to keep cooped up inside year round. The eastern box turtles...
For saving the eastern box turtle and 3 toed. I live in New York. Looking to take in rescues and re-located/ rehabilitate them too. I'de like some name suggestions for my future organization!!
ahhh ok. I'm going to start with the just "possess" for now. I know the breeding and selling is completely different, that will come with time. I've looked at the DEC website a bunch of times so I'm becoming familiar with the different licenses. I just want the spring to come so I can start...
Awesome, thanks for the info. I printed out the license application a couple days ago. Is it hard to get?
Also, thank you Turtlelous for the response..
Thanks for the response Terryo I appreciate it. It seems we have similar thoughts/goals with these box turtles. I have checked out that Long Island rescue a few times and will definitely get in touch with them....and I have read a bunch of your posts. You kind of didn't answer some of my...
So I decided against getting a tortoise that I would have to keep indoors. I came up with an idea. I'm going to start a small organization for taking rescued Easter Box turtles here in New York. I'm going to build a monster outdoor habitat for them, aiming for at least 1600 square feet...
Where would you recommend buying a tort? Ive went through about 20 sites so far, not sure who to trust. Are torts that expensive on every site? Like 250 a piece? Not that I'm itching but holy crap.
Holy crap thanks for the info man I appreciate it. I've been doing a lot of research. I want to make a MONSTER outdoor habitat. The only problem is I'de have to fence the top....Extra time but I'de have to do it with the million predators around here. Its funny, when someone in this thread...
Thanks for the reply buddy much appreciated. Another question. Say I wanted to choose a type to keep outside year round and hibernate them. That is possible right?....For maybe box turtles or Russians? IF so what kinds are there for this?
Thanks all for the welcome and for the replies. I am located 25 minutes north of Westchester. 1.5 hours south of Albany, whatever helps with the accuracy. I've been trying to research a cold weather tortoise that grows large but it seems that there isn't any. Seems like all the cold weather...
New Member here....I was looking to get a tortoise or 2. I've always been partial to torts that grow big. I have the space in and outside my house for a couple and have raised animals my whole life....the problem is I live in New York. I would like a tortoise that can spend 3/4 of the year...
