I used the coco coir for a while, mixed with soil, and it was such a mess to keep up with. It was heavy and the coir stuck to everything. She likes the mulch okay.. doesn't dig in it as much as she did the soil and coir though. =/
I do like the idea of having little bugs that help keep mold...
So, I switched to cypress mulch a couple weeks ago, and now I notice around the center of the enclosure, under the fogger where it's the most moist, there are hundreds of these really tiny white bugs running around. From what I've read on here, they're either woodlice or springtails or...
Yes, the green hose is coming from a humidifier that sits to the left of her enclosure. I want to replace the hose with some clear tubing so I can run it along the back and punch some holes in it so it comes out all across, rather than dumping in one place.
And thanks! We love her. =]
I have some hibiscus, heliconia, and dandelions that I planted a week or so ago in pots, so I just set the pots in there with her. She hasn't been pushing anything around yet, and they're fairly big. I'm planning to set up her old glass tank for a place to grow the flowers and dandelions so I...
Finally got her in something a little more her size. I plan on changing to a CHE instead of that incredibly bright light, but in the meantime, I finaggled that plant a little further out of the corner so she can crawl around under the leaves and out of the light, but still get the heat over...
I live in Oklahoma, so it's mostly pretty dry. Also, I live in an apartment for now. I went with a 50 gal storage bin. I'll post pics when I get it all together.
Just a rough sketch I just drew up, for how I kinda envision the enclosure to come out in the long run. It will take me prob a couple weeks to get the things I need, but it will hopefully be the last change for a while. It doesn't show it, but the tub is about 2.5' long, and about 2' wide at...
RE: Differences between red-foot and yellow-foots
Yeah I started to rethink it a little, since Calypso has zero red on her, but the scales on her head give it away. She's definitely a red. =]
I found TF by good guess. I was speaking with a friend who keeps bearded dragons about things like temps and humidity, and she said being on a forum helped her a lot, so I typed in "tortoiseforum.com" and boom. Here I am.
Does the humidity pose any danger to the lights? I found a work horse thing to set up over the tub to hang the lights from so I can hammer in a few nails and hang them from chains or something and the shower curtain over it all. Then I just have to get the substrate in there. If I do top soil...
I liked the idea I saw on another thread about building a kind of tent over the top with pvc pipe and a drape to keep the heat and humidity in. I'll be working to figure the enclosure out, and will probably stick with the solid colored tub because it's the biggest one. I'll have room to put some...
My name is Liana, and thanks for the advice. I have a few storage tubs I could use already. Clear/opaque, and solid colored. Can I use the same heating and lighting I have? I'm using the lights, not the under-tank pad. And some of the waiting is for money reasons as well. I'm changing what I can...
How long is the "acclimation stage" typically? Is her appetite low just because it's been a move for her? She's about 6" long, but I haven't measured yet. I'll get pics of her and the enclosure when I can, but to be honest the enclosure's pretty scarce. I need to get plants in it, and I don't...
