    Sphagnum moss and MOLD?! H E L P

I just found some mold, atleast that is what I think it is, under my tortoises food bowl and on a rock that lies against the waterdish. The thing is, I am not sure if it was mold, and what should I do? I removed all the parts that were covered in so called mold. It was very thin, and white. I...

Is this ok for a Russian tortoise?

You should! Also I bet it comes off as much less expensive doing it yourself!

Is this ok for a Russian tortoise?

That looks like it's slightly small. I guess it's ok for not a grown up russian, but definitely not for an adult. Mine is 2m in lenght, 70cm wide and 40cm in height.

    SUNKEN EYES OR NOT?

Hi. I've owned my russian for under a month now, and I'm not sure if his eyes are sunken or normal. i know his lower beak is very owergrown and we are going to the vet to trim it. But his eyes, are they normal? He soaks himself in the water dish almost every day and gets fresh and dry food. I...

Pine Bark sold as a good substrate?

Kaapo is doing good! The symptoms disappeared as soon as I removed the bark. We didn't need go to the vet, I called her and she said if it will continue or the symptoms come back then we need to go. But Kaapo had symptoms for only 2-3 hours and now that the bark is gone and I rinsed him from the...

Pine Bark sold as a good substrate?

I have an official CITES certificate of origin and it shows the age. I have had the tortoise for one week now. Here's a picture of the bark also.

Pine Bark sold as a good substrate?

But pine as it is is toxic to tortoises. I copied this from MoonValleyReptiles; The scent of pine and cedar that we humans find pleasant are a result of volatile oils that can cause damage to skin and respiratory systems. These shavings give off aromatic hydrocarbons known as phenols as well as...

Pine Bark sold as a good substrate?

My tortoise now has respiratory issues from it and it did smell like an air freshener, but i removed it all now. My tortoise got a runny nose and bubbles and there is no other way that it would be other than the pine bark which is supposedly toxic.

The pet store where I bought my Russian Tortoise said that pine bark is fine for russians.. little did I know they didn't know the truth. And now my 23 years old russian is having respiratory issues and we are going to the vet first thing in the morning though it's 1,5h drive but I need to know...

Hello! I just got my RT (testudo horsfieldii) five days ago. He's 23 years old, and he came from Uzbekistan to Germany to Finland where he now lives with me and the backgrounds aren't too clear. His shell + skin etc everything is good and proportionate but the lower beak is very long. He still...
