Sorry but it is most likely breeder failure syndrome. This is number one killer and Indonesian use that technique and falsely diagnosed that as MBD. The best thing you can do is provide best warm humid environment and very good hydration. Good luck.
You won't be able to find fir bark / repti bark in Indonesia. The closest thing I can find is something called "forest bark". However it is made from pine, so I will not use it. What I use is a thick layer of plantation soil and a thin layer of small coco husk on top to make it less messy...
Based on my experience, they will be there and establish their colony by a month by themselves as long as the substrate is kept moist. As far as I know, they are not harmful but some people just cannot stand seing tiny little bugs crawling around the enclosure.
Also, substrate is not for...
Hi Ted,
1. It's sold in many places, but I got it from Tokopedia. Just search "Exoterra Plantation Soil". It is basically coco peat/coir so you can also buy brand less alternatives
2. Do you mean cleaning for maintenance? I only do spot cleaning when I see poop/food leftover. I let springtails...
Finally I found a solution that works. I just cut the bottom of the tub and use it as his feeding dish and he now eats inside the enclosure. Not sure what is special about the tub and what is driving this behavior though, i think he is just a weird little guy.
Hi @Justincl, welcome to TFO from fellow Indonesian.
I know the majority of information you found here contradict everything you were told before by breeders, people on youtube, instagram, etc. However, you should see the photo of tortoise raised by the method here vs the majority of tortoise...
You can use standard dirt (tanah) without fertilizer and grow plants on it. It is now sometimes dry here but we are soon entering rainy season (in fact, it is thunderstorm now). Don't forget to install proper drain system to avoid flood and night box which will always dry, maybe elevated
Tried it this morning, not working. I guess I have to experiment a little bit then.
You can buy and plant it, it is called "Murbei" here. I haven't had kangkung for a while now since my family got bored of it. Haha. Maybe I'll get it next week.
I also thought so, but I have also tried moving around the food and even scattered a lot of food everywhere in the enclosure but still he will not eat.
Gave me a shock the first time I saw it too!
Hi all,
I have a sulcata hatchling since a month ago. He was not eating a lot for the first few days, maybe only a nibble or two, and he was losing weight although he was still active and exploring his enclosure. I fed him hibiscus flower and leaf, mulberry leaf, occasional mustard green, pak...
I highly doubt his cherry head is imported from the US. Most of the cherry heads here in Indonesia are either coming from breeder (small qty) or imported from South America. However, I know a big seller who just imported a bunch of sulcata hatchling from the US in July and I am also curious...
I'm in Jakarta and it is really hot since the past few days.
The signs at that time were he weighted less, sunken eyes, and there were bubbles coming out of his mouth.
One thing came to mind, since you have a pair in one enclosure, maybe the other tortoise became the dominant and chased the...
Hi, fellow Indonesian here and I also have a cherryhead.
In which city do you live? You might want to check again your temperature and humidity. Before, I also kept my baby CH in an open enclosure but found out that during a hot dry day the temperature can go up to 33-34 C and humidity went...
