No idea how much...didn't want to ask too many questions because wellington might be right...they could have been the thieves themselves! Not trying to blame but definitely possible. When I did ask where/how he was sold, I got a vague answer. So I just kept it short and brought my guy straight...
It was awful. Lesson learned for sure. I now have two additional key-code locks on the gate and will no longer allow guests to operate them. Ever. Seldom I have guests anyhow but this is definitely the new house rule. Also have cameras installed with noticeable signage.
Squirt is HOME!! He was stolen, sold, and the family who bought him saw my flyers around town. They decided to give him up in exchange for the reward. Thank you to everyone who was sending good vibes and giving ideas of how to spread the word. He is happy on his heating pad in his nightbox...
Thanks everyone! He was on CBS 13 news channel and the Modesto Bee article that Vladimir linked above.
I will definitely keep looking for him and holding out hope for months to come. I have a strong feeling someone is trying to keep him...hope they give him up soon!!
Nothing yet. I have contacted all local rescues, wildlife places, pet stores, animal shelters, etc. Posted flyers all over the neighborhood. Going to continue posting all over town until I have nowhere left to post. I know someone has him at this point!! Tortoises don't just vanish. I'm worried...
Also if anyone has suggestions on how to find him, I appreciate it greatly.
Aside from posting on Instagram, Facebook, reddit, and NextDoor, I have contacted...
the local police, animal shelter, and animal control
Local pet stores and rescues
Local reptile/emergency vets
I put up a few...
Before anyone comments on this with suggestions...I have been extremely responsible with my tortoise. He has a secure yard and night box. However, a guest left our side gate unlatched and my sully pushed his way out while we were out for a few hours.
He was last seen by a witness on 11th and E...
OK thanks for the tips! I will jack up the thermostat a bit. And I also feel prepared heading into the vet appointment, so I appreciate it. I am taking him to a vet listed in the forum, so hope it all goes well. Will report back.
Thanks again.
Update: The vet booked him an appointment for Friday the 18th. It was the earliest available. They don't seem concerned in waiting the eleven days but I am nervous! Should I take him to emergency vet or am I overreacting? Again, he seems fine and is behaving/eating/breathing normally.
@Tom...
This winter his diet has consisted heavily of...
Orchard hay
Chickweed
Miner's lettuce
Low Mallow
He usually only gets kale or grocery greens if I am in dire need during summer months. I've tried to remove all oxalis from the yard.
If it is goiter, would the lump be soft to the touch? And...
Hi all!
My 11 year old, 60(ish) lb sulcata has been healthy his whole life! I have had him since he was one year old. Aside from me worrying about his water intake, he's always been a pretty easy dude to care for. Relatively so for a sully, LOL.
Needless to say, I was alarmed when I noticed a...
Hi all!
I have a ten year old sulcata who happily grazes my yard for chickweed in the winter time. However, we've gotten a LOT of rain the last few weeks compared to usual. The soil is wet and my sully is eating dirt when eating- he pulls the chickweeds with their roots.
Should I be worried...
