My dog did the same thing to my juvenile Russian tortoise. My vet checked him out and the bites didn't penetrate the chest cavity. He's doing great 2 years later. Shallow punctures do well if they are kept clean. They didn't look bad to me. Mine looked a lot worse than that.

If they are in the basement, perhaps they are breathing in mold spores that are making them sick. So sorry for your loss.

Hi, I'm new to this forum too. But I have had Russians for years and have a breeding pair that have had 3 clutches hatch. When there are weeds in their pen, they eat those. When the weeds die, they get spring mix, but not the kind with spinach. That can cause health issues if they get too much...
