Order the set. They are lovely. He also started a tortoise related mystery series called World Beneath the World. A little dark and gruesome at times but a tort related tale that was fun.

He died due to complications from surgery two days ago.

I've never spoken with his wife. And they live in New Hampshire. Which is the opposite end of the country.

We're friends on FACEBOOK and I've been trying to gather information unobtrusively while the family deals with this.
Seeing he left care instructions for if he passed at some point, leaving his wife to care for the tortoises, I'm sure she is doing that, along with his kids. Hopefully she has his forum info if he ever logged off. She knows I'm sure, we are here to help should she need it.
They likely are doing what they can to keep them happy and healthy while they try to figure out what the heck happened and where they go from here with them. I'm sure they would love to keep them if not only to honor his love and care of them.
When they get it figured out, I'm sure we will hear something if they need our help.
I think they recently moved to Massachusetts, 11/2023. If anyone wants to search for an obituary.
I did, nothing yet (as of early this morning). If it was unexpected then I'm sure they have a lot to handle. i think her post on FB is like an obit

I have chili the grumpy tortoise 🐢🐢. I'm so glad I bought it. What a wonderful friend he's been here on TFO. Thank the good Lord we still have his posts here. Just think of the children that'll need help because they were inspired by him to care for a tortoise correctly..
I have three of his books that he signed for me.
