Hi All

I’m such a bad tortoise parent. I love my little guy he’s like one of the family.
Today I put him in for his soak inside his enclosure and I went off to do other things and forgot about him.
2 hours later I finally remembered. I ran so fast into the room and he was still sitting there in the soak water. The water was dirty But still warm as it was partially under the lamp.
Have I done him any damage soaking him that long?

Probably not. As long as he still seems active and normal it should be fine. My friend would sit outside and have his tortoise soaking for hours. His tortoise also falls asleep in his water dish. I have box turtles and have had to wake up a few of mine who passed out in their water lol

I've forgot to bring my tortoise inside at night a few times and he's been left out all night.

Yeah, I've Arnie Graped my tortoises on more than one occasion. Last year, I put my radiated tortoises in a bath for the morning, got distracted, then left them in there when I went to the shop. When I got back for lunch, I went outside to retrieve them and freaked out, thinking they had been stolen. I then went inside and discovered that I left them in the tub, covered in their own feces. They were fine. I don't recommend doing it every day, but once in a blue moon, this works fine. It obviously isn't without risks. Radiateds don't generally flip in the tub, but I have had baby marginateds flip in the tub, and this can end badly, especially if the tortoise is left for hours on end. So yes, try not to let it happen, but so long as the tortoise doesn't drown in the short term, things will be fine long term.

I’ve had the same freak out about my juvenile box turtles. Came home to one flipped over in the water dish not moving. When I took the lid off the tub, little dummy sticks his head out like he’s at the spa. Made sure to swap out a bigger dish and add rocks right after lol

Uhm, now I think I am the strange one. Lol! I sit by my Turt and Indu, especially Indu when I soak them. But in my defence I use that time to bond with them and relax in my daily routine.

Indu has the strange habit of putting his head under water. Just looking around. He even fell asleep once with his head under water. I was so glad I was watching, scared me a lot. Silly Indu!!

Funny. I've only forgotten Artemis for a couple of hours in her soak so far. But I'm obsessed with sitting next to her while she's in there, in case "she" ever turns out to be a "he"! My boyfriend wants her to be male so bad.
