One day I found a tiny aquatic turtle in my yard. It must've came from the lake nearby. The turtle was obviously dead, but that started my interest in getting a turtle. After I saw a few, I decided that a tortoise would be better. That's why I got my Russian.

I read many sources and per instinct that Russian tortoise and prickly pear should be fine together. Our tortoise seems no problem moving about them. He appears completely void of fear of these cactus needles. However, I do read that wild tortoises have to suffer them as they have no choice(?)...
