    Two Questions (feeding & hibernation)

Thanks Tom for the explanations. Since I'm new to him I wasn't even going to attempt the hibernation yet but your explanation helped me understand better. Our rainy season is in the summer when the heat and humidity is high but in the winter we don't get much rain. I'm down far enough in FL...

    Two Questions (feeding & hibernation)

Mine eats about a handful as well and he eats almost all of it twice a day. That's why I was afraid to skip a day. I guess I'm doing alright then. Still kind of nervous being he's my first tortoise.

    Two Questions (feeding & hibernation)

RE: Two Questions Great. Thank you both so much. I don't mind bringing him in I just couldn't understand why if you could put them in the fridge! lol I certainly don't want him getting sick though.

    Two Questions (feeding & hibernation)

I'm recently got my new Russian a couple weeks ago and I have a few questions. First off, if they go into hibernation why do they have to come in if it's below 50? I live in SW FL where some night's may get below 50 but warms up in the 70's or 80's during the day. Do I still have to bring him...

    Quick Question (acclimating to outdoors)

Well I ended up putting him outside because by 11 am the sun came out and it got hot. So much for a cloudy day. I live in SW FL so it's usually warm here. He seems to be doing ok despite his trip to my house in a box.

    Quick Question (acclimating to outdoors)

RE: Quick Question It's been so hot and humid here lately, I can't believe on the day he is to arrive it's gloomy and chilly. He's due to arrive in the next half hour so he may have to go out until I can get to the store and get a lamp.

RE: Quick Question Thank you so much. It's an adult so I'll go ahead and put it outside but I'm going to keep a close eye on it.

    Quick Question (acclimating to outdoors)

My first tortoise, a Russian, is due to arrive today. I've built a nice enclosure outside. My question is, it's cloudy, gloomy and 67 out right now. It's supposed to get to 80 today but still stay cloudy. The temps are going to be the same for the next few days, being cloudy and somewhat chilly...

    Newbie with a couple questions

Wow he really is a digger! I've already made the enclosure and I put chicken wire on the bottom so mine wouldn't get out if he dug. After hearing about yours I'm even more glad I did that! I have one hide spot and a house but I think I'll put two more in there for it. Thanks for the bucket idea...

    I'm a newbie

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. Well I didn't get my tort today because my enclosure isn't finished. My 80 year old dad is helping me build it and it's going slower than I thought. I want it 100% ready before I bring it home. I most certainly will post pictures and look forward to your...

    Newbie with a couple questions

Good Idea with the umbrella. I didn't think of that. I have no trees by me at all and I was concerned that the poor little guy would cook out there. Thanks so much for your input.
