They love the flowers from a chitalpa tree. It's a crossbreed between a catalpa and a desert willow. Very drought resilient, lots of flowers and fast grower.
Did anyone see the 60 minutes show a couple of weeks ago about the illegal trade of tortoises. It featured a wild plowshare [probably not right spelling] that was beautiful, almost bell shaped, from Madagascar. Also interviewed Eric Good, who is a tortoise conservator in California. Really good...
It was 33 degrees, the cold does not seem to bother him as long as he finds a sunny spot. It was cloudy that day so he was out just long enough to eat, won't miss a meal. Thats tomato on his face.
silo has burrowed for the last three summers, right now in the heat of summer she only comes out between 6-7 pm and eats for half a hour to a hour. Seems content, when she first starts coming out, she will sit in the opening 'her porch" for up to thirty minutes. She cleans out the opening...
One of the kids volleyballs went down silos burrow, took the turn and is gone, hopefully he can play soccer and push it out. He comes out to graze about 8 everynight :(
I think his size is right on track, the only humidity mine got was soaking 4 or 5 times a week, and i live in a very dry place. I don't think humidity is the problem, watersoaks and sunsoaks.
Silo has a summer home [burrow], if she lays a clutch of eggs will she do it in her burrow or build a seperate nest ? Also, how long after being fertilized will she lay them ?
