As of today...
- He/she is 6" at 557 grams (I'll get pictures of the underside to determine sex)
- Upon examination, nothing really peculiar with him / her, just slightly less active. Shell is firm with no rotting. Nothing on skin.
- Nothing on nose or mouth, but eyes due get watery every once...
My redfoot has been biting his or her own leg lately. Makes a fairly strange noise. Has anyone experience the same thing?
Also, how do I know if the tortoise is healthy and doing well?
He eats and poos and roams around it's tub. I'm just paranoid now after losing a yearling not too long ago.
Thank you everyone. Probably not going to bury in a park, since I believe it's illegal here (or so I was told). I think I will go the vet option. Paying is not a problem. It's the least I can do.
No more little tortoises for me...will stick with larger guys/gals that I can handle better.
Got him/her from a forum member here about 5 months ago. Not sure where he got it from though.
Have to say though, the tort was never the aggressive eater the other one was. Always slower and less alert in my opinion.
Not to say he wasn't healthy (by look), but just never was that active.
Sorry to say, but my hatchling red foot tortoise died yesterday. I'm still uncertain as to why or what happened to him or her. Pictures and questions are posted in the species forum. Hoping forum members can point me in the right direction.

I still don't understand what went wrong. In about one weeks time, he went from healthy and eating...to this.
I'm definitely going to give the older one more TLC than ever.

I've moved the little one in it's own space now. It's half covered to ensure a higher humidity as well.
What other information can I provide that would help?
The little guy didn't eat today, but did poo after soaking. It kept bopping its head around the food, but didn't quite go for it...
Day time temp is 80's, prob 90 plus under the mv lamp.
Humidity outside is about 50%, but I would guess more humid inside the rubbermaid case that they sleep in. I try to keep the substrate wet and spray every once in awhile.
Diet consists of dandelion leaves, spring mix, and zoo med tortoise...
