NYC Red Foot Tortoise - FREE

It's official...I am moving. So the tortoise needs to go. If you are local and interested, please send me your info. If you provide your email in your reply, I can send you pictures as well. Slight change in plan though. I am requesting a $20 adoption fee. Apologies for this, but there is a...

NYC Red Foot Tortoise - FREE

Just a quick update to all that have expressed interest... My move is still not final yet. I should know by the end of this week, I hope. Should it happen, I will contact those who have emailed me. Like I said, I prefer locals as I just have never shipped a tortoise before. Thanks and stay tuned.

NYC Red Foot Tortoise - FREE

After two great years with my RTF, I may have to part ways with him/her as I am potentially moving overseas. There is no adoption fee. I will even include his/her current home if you want it. The only catch is that it needs to go to an experienced and caring keeper. We want our RTF to be...

    Weird behavior

As of today... - He/she is 6" at 557 grams (I'll get pictures of the underside to determine sex) - Upon examination, nothing really peculiar with him / her, just slightly less active. Shell is firm with no rotting. Nothing on skin. - Nothing on nose or mouth, but eyes due get watery every once...

    Weird behavior

My redfoot has been biting his or her own leg lately. Makes a fairly strange noise. Has anyone experience the same thing? Also, how do I know if the tortoise is healthy and doing well? He eats and poos and roams around it's tub. I'm just paranoid now after losing a yearling not too long ago.

    Baby Tortoise Died

Thank you everyone. Probably not going to bury in a park, since I believe it's illegal here (or so I was told). I think I will go the vet option. Paying is not a problem. It's the least I can do. No more little tortoises for me...will stick with larger guys/gals that I can handle better.

    Redfoot Yearling

Got him/her from a forum member here about 5 months ago. Not sure where he got it from though. Have to say though, the tort was never the aggressive eater the other one was. Always slower and less alert in my opinion. Not to say he wasn't healthy (by look), but just never was that active.

    Baby Tortoise Died

Sorry to say, but my hatchling red foot tortoise died yesterday. I'm still uncertain as to why or what happened to him or her. Pictures and questions are posted in the species forum. Hoping forum members can point me in the right direction. In the meantime, I was wondering what I can do...

    Redfoot Yearling

Mark, I'm all for providing the best for these tortoises. Is there other information that I can provide to make things right, if not already? Pictures of the habitat perhaps? Judging by those pictures, can you see anything wrong with the little one?

    Redfoot Yearling

Sad to say, but I lost the little guy today =( I still don't understand what went wrong. In about one weeks time, he went from healthy and eating...to this. I'm definitely going to give the older one more TLC than ever. That said, does anyone know what I can do with the body...

    Redfoot Yearling

I've moved the little one in it's own space now. It's half covered to ensure a higher humidity as well. What other information can I provide that would help? The little guy didn't eat today, but did poo after soaking. It kept bopping its head around the food, but didn't quite go for it...

    Redfoot Yearling

Temps are taken via probes. One inside the hide and one outside, closest to the MV lamp. It's pretty near the floor already. Any suggestions?

    Redfoot Yearling

Night time temp is about 70.

    Redfoot Yearling

Day time temp is 80's, prob 90 plus under the mv lamp. Humidity outside is about 50%, but I would guess more humid inside the rubbermaid case that they sleep in. I try to keep the substrate wet and spray every once in awhile. Diet consists of dandelion leaves, spring mix, and zoo med tortoise...
