Have a huge, agressive russian tort that spends most her time bullying anything around her and mounting other females.
I call her Rosie O'donnel.
I had hoped in time she would settle down, or a male would put her in her place but quite the opposite, she took a chunk out of my largest male's...
Im embarassed I never thought of this myself. GREAT tip, thank you.
The only light I have that works for this is the one on my phone so cant get a picture, but its very obvious looking at it that theres been no development at all.
Since it doesnt involve a dead or suffering hatchling Ill...
No smell at all so far. Theres definitely a bit of mud on it, but the stuff coming out the crack isnt mud.
Havent candled at all, didnt want to disturb the eggs more than necessary- Ive been told developing embyos stress easily(?)
Seems like thats the next logical step, I may wait to see if...
Redfoot egg, near day 100. Started showing up ~4 days ago, becoming more and more pronounced.
Theres a little nub protruding from the crack on the lower side.
Never seen this before, what do?
Have it back in the incubator for now, havent disturbed it except for taking the picture.
I just happened to be flipping through channels and stopped to see what he was going to pull out of the bag. I felt bad for the poor little guy he was prob terrified- hows a tort supposed to know the difference between a comedy award show or an asian cooking show :D
I was kind of hoping the...
This line made me :)
Hitting them with AC wont be a problem. Theres a small, very confused room in my house with a skylight thats perfect for keeping torts in. Its cut off from the rest of the house so its easy to maintain temperature and humidity.
Very interesting info on sulcatas Tom, that...
Good info, ty Geo
I consider myself lucky we're not in the rainy season yet then, Ill have to start working on ways to reduce their exposure. They have a dogloo hut that will keep them high and dry in the rain, but only about 1/3 of them use it at the moment.. The rest of them prefer to...
Ive heard this alot from various breeders and vendors, but I havent been able to find a consistent reason why.
I do know Ive never seen RT hatchings, or CB RTs at the reptile shows Ive been to.
My russians have been doing fine outside the past few months. I got a couple 7" proven breeding...
ty :D
After alot more reading and rethinking Ive figured out exactly what I want to do for layout. Alot different from what I was originally thinking, but mostly in good ways.
So all thats left to do is build it and see how it performs.(without eggs lol)
Any recommendations on heating...
Ive been doing some reading on home made incubators lately and think it would be cool to make one out of a 40 gal aquarium Ive had lying around.
I think I could make it very attractive, and the visibility from the front glass wall would be great.
Ive read alot about the method with a...
Been a busy couple weeks, hope this isnt considered thread necro'ing(I know thats frowned on some places)
Very informative post Torta. Id have to agree about the importer, just a good selling point. To my understanding except for Suriname and Guyana most of their native range is in the amazon...
Hand feeding and just sitting with them has been whats worked best with me. I have 6 fairly new imported elongated torts, all of them came in very people shy. So when Im searching the web on my phone, I bring them food and sit with them- as Im typing this, 2 of them have come to hide under my...
ty all.
You can just call me Spurtacus ^^ I go by Chris IRL but so does 10% of the rest of the population..
Didnt have alot of time at home while it was light out- work calls :/
Did get a couple pics during lunch tho
This is my tort enclosure- pretty simple in design. 2x12s around the...
