Her lighting and enclosure are good. The vet thinks that she had these issues before I cam across her. Perhaps that's why she was abandoned in the first place ?♀️
Thank you! He is part of a local animal hospital that we take all our animals to. We've normally only had cats and dogs, but they do see exotics and his treatments and analysis of Sunshine have been helping.
Her biggest thing is that she won't eat, but the vet said that at a certain tipping...
UPDATE 2:
Sunshine has been getting fluid therapy at the vet for a week and a half now and is still on the antibiotic.
Yesterday I got the unfortunate news that she has kidney problems. The vet used the words "kidney failure," but there is still hope so I'm hesitant to use that exact wording...
UPDATE!!
Hi All, thank you so much for your help and reassurance. Sunshine thanks you too! We were able to get a vet appointment yesterday where the vet explained that she hasn't gained weight since I've gotten her (despite the fact that she was constantly munching all day). But perhaps this is...
@harrythetortoise Her temps are always within the proper range (the picture above is a typical reading, but the humidity can shift depending on the time of day)
@Taylorlynn48 I thought the heating lamp was the issue?
@ZenHerper Thank you so much for this info. I only give her a sprinkle of...
The biggest problem is that she won't eat. I've tried putting mushed up Mazuri in front of her and giving her greens but she won't even touch it. I just plopped her in a bath like @harrythetortoise said. I give her plenty of water, but she started gulping it down like I hadn't *just* soaked her...
The light is about a foot and a half away from her basking area.
This is breaking my heart. If you've read any of my previous posts, I found Sunshine on the trails of my nature center. I didn't intend to become a tortoise mom, but I fell in love and I just want to give her the best life...
I feed her a variety of greens. Right now, she has kale with Masuri pellets and some dried flowers. But I typically try to feed her a mix of chicory, escarole, and kale. I soak her once a week in warm water for at least 30 mins. And I used 100W Repti Basking Spot Lamp and the Reptisun 10.0 UVB...
My 1 year old Russian Tortoise hasn't been eating very little if at all recently. The temperatures in her enclosure are correct and I've given her a soak as well. She seems active otherwise, but I'm worried about her eating.
I heard there are possible mouth infections that could be hindering...
This is so helpful! Thank you so much!
And yes she is a Russian. She was found right next to the start of a trail at the nature center I work for. We get a lot of people who just abandon their pets. Her shell and weight also suggested that she wasn't taken care of even when she was with...
Thank you for this info! I'm still a new tortoise mom and I just want to give her the best life possible. I'll definitely get some tortoise chow. I know that she should have a varied diet and that it's very important, but how do I feed her those flowers and leaves and weeds in the middle of...
