Just as I took the picture he yawned.
But he is eating - a lot! So I’m fairly sure we are on our way to a full recovery.
Since noticing the issue I have gone back to the basics of babying him with carrot purée soaked mazuri, stonecrop, hens, dandelion leaves, hibiscus flowers and a cactus...
Thank you for the link. I read it all and feel better that Benny has “shed” his overgrown bottom beak. Other than the missing beak he appears to have no other issues and the fact he is still eating and drinking makes me feel significantly better.
Hello Forum,
It’s been quite a while since I have been on.
Until recently Benny, my six year old leopard tortoise has been doing very well.
Last summer we built him a 24’x18’ outdoor summer enclosure which he has enjoyed for two entire summers. This year however I noticed some odd behaviour...
Thanks all. I have a 5'x6" enclosure, so I am always looking for solutions, and in a year or so my tort will probably be too big for that and have roam of the house.
I like that it's broad spectrum, and the moon light I would only use for an hour or so to bring Benny some relaxation after all...
Trying to find a cost effective and less "cord/timer messy" solution for lighting Benny's enclosure and came across this fixture. http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/ho-t5-36-quad-fixture-w-arcadia-12-bulb-2x-daylight-bulbs-plant-pro-built-in-timer/
Any thoughts on the potential dangers/benefits?
Thanks guys. I'm going to try and source the food grade "dia-going to have to write that down" earth and get a load of it into the enclosure and my gardens
Benny has been inside again. We have an ant infestation in my area and his enclosure has red and black ants in it. Ugh. Have tried everything and can't seem to kill the nuisances.
Anyone got advice for these horrid little invaders in ontario?
I also have a mole under his house - should I be...
Need some help folks. I need some suggestions for some full sun loving tortoise safe vines. The grapes hate the enclosure. It's two hot and the leaves keep getting burned. Is there another option for some kind of climbing vine?
I've added hens n chicks, a variety of sedum, a nice big shady...
All my neighbours and all the kids in the neighbourhood know and love Benny. He's a popular tortoise around here. The fence neighbour actually helps with him when I'm away. He used to own two very large tortoises, Sulcatas I think, when he was back home
Benny won't be outside unless we are home...
