Ok I got some athletes foot cream the active ingredient is Tolnaftate will this work? I just read somewhere on here that only Clotrimazol will work.

    Shell Rot

I read somewhere that you should take off the first layer of the shell with a toothbrush and then treat it. Should I do this or just aply the cream right to the shell? Also I heard you could use triple antibiotic ointment and I was wondering if that would work because I already have some laying...

    Shell Rot

I have a 3 toed box turtle that is about 2 years old and a little over 2 inches. I noticed he has what looks like shell rot on the bottom of his shell. All of the information I read on the internet was for aquatic turtles so I was wondering how to keep the wound clean when he's walking around in...

    Indoor Enclosure

Also this is only where he lives for half of the year. In the summer he is in an outdoor pen which was 8x4 last year but I might make it bigger this year.

    Indoor Enclosure

Ok thanks for the help I think I'll try using some peat moss covered in cypress mulch. I looked up pictures of peat moss and I kind of looked like coco husk is that the stuff you use?

    Indoor Enclosure

Also if it was a smaller area it would be easier to keep clean

    Indoor Enclosure

Right now he is on topsoil covered in leaves and I don't really like it because it gets him all dirty when he burrows and always gets his food dirty because even if I put it in a bowl he still drags it out. It's also I infested with tiny bugs and fruit flies which I had before and I replaced the...

    Indoor Enclosure

Thanks for the reply, so you think it would be a bad idea to only have substrate in one area?

    Indoor Enclosure

I was thinking about moving my adult ornate box turtle into a larger enclosure and had some questions. Right now he's in a 40gallon breeder and I want to move him into a 4x2.5 foot wood cage and I saw a video on YouTube of someone who used carpet on the majority of the cage and gave them one...

    Box turtles eyes won't open

I think your right about the diet he eats mostly insects but now I'm starting to dust them more with the vitamin. I usually just feed whatever fruits and vegetables I have around the house the other day he had some broccoli. I'll try to get him eating more greens and if you could answer this...

    Box turtles eyes won't open

I'm using just plain top soil. No other signs of sickness either. I think the main problem is probably what humidity like the first guy said. Also I have never heard of the baby food soak could you explain them to me? Thanks.

    Box turtles eyes won't open

I'm just using a regular lightbulb for basking and have a uvb 5.0 strip light. I'm working on getting a lid to keep in humidity.

    Box turtles eyes won't open

I have a three toes box turtle that is around 9 months old and his eyes are always closed. I read about it in the box turtle manual and it says it is either bacterial conjunctivitis or a vitamin A deficiency. Soaks and triple antibiotic ointment always open them up but they never stay open for...

    I'm so thrilled

Also the only reason I think I got them was because there was no lid on the tank but I think it's a pretty good substrate that's what I am using for my baby sulcata that I'm getting soon so I can plant grasses and weeds and I'm currently using it for my baby box turtle . good luck with your torts
