    New turtle

Thank you, Mark! Is there anything out of the ordinary I should know about this species? And can you tell how old she might be?

There is no red. I can't get her to pull herself out for a better photo. She is very timid. One of the staff said "Chinese something" but that was all they could tell me.

    New turtle

Hi everyone, I rescued this turtle from death row. I really wasn't planning on getting another turtle, but hey, life gave this poor girl lemons. The pet store that she was in has no information on her. She was purchased as a gift for someone that didn't know how to properly care for her. The...

Thanks Zeno. Excellent info. He is sure a feisty fellow and he has an awesome personality. It seems as though he's interested in playing... Which is much different from my redfoot. She is more of a "let's chill while you crochet" kind of pet. ;) The Captain follows me from his tank like a little...

I was also given these. Are they sufficient? I am going to change his bulbs this weekend (I don't know how long these ones have been in use) but I don't want to use the wrong bulbs.

I have now been told he's a Northern Red Bellied Cooter. Opinions? I'm very confused now... I hope I don't screw this up. :/

The feeding is very different from what I've found googling. RES are omnivores while the Florida Ref Belly is mostly herbivorous. I had another person tell me he may be a painted turtle. He's been with the family I got him from for two years, they treated him as if he was a RES and they fed him...

Thank you! I read some arguments on a website... Some say it is dangerous and to take them to a vet to clip, others said it's for mating... Females like longer nails. I think he looks great. ;)
