His enclosure is about97 degrees on the warm side and about 75 on the dark side
He seems to be hiding out on the dark side
I replaced the uv bulb today and took him outside since it was 100 degrees here and he moved all over and ate some clover. My uv bulb looked gray and terrible. I really...
I have not moved his enclosure or changed anything. Not even my pattern of how I feed him. I think I will try changing his UV bulb. I have had the same bulb for about a year. I changed the heat bulb about 2 months ago but I have not changed the uv bulb yet so I appreciate the suggestion because...
His enclosure is pretty large. It is about 4' long and 2' wide and my husband built it with an end enclosed for hiding. We modeled it after one I saw online. I can't post pics because for some reason my iPad will not let me :(. I have 2 light bulbs for him, the heat lamp is a 100w sun glo bulb...
Hi everyone
I have a Russian named Harry. We have had him for about a year and I think he is about 2 years old. He lives in a Tortoise House with coconut husks and the proper lighting. When he first came home with us he didn't eat for a couple weeks, then when he became comfortable with us he...
Thank you very much. I have only had Harry a few months and I am still very cautious about giving him the wrong food
I hope enjoys a few as a little treat :)
Thanks again!!
Michelle
Hi!
I have a Russian tort and today I was topping some strawberries and I wondered if he could eat the green part with a little of the strawberry fruit just as a treat. Is this ok for him? I thought he might love it if it is ok for him :)
Thanks for your help!!
Michelle
The kids and I always sit in a circle and watch him
What would be a good way to have a secure play for him to hang out in the sun once the summer gets here?
Thank you! It actually started raining so we stayed in. I just thought the little guy would enjoy the exercise and sun shine!! He isn't a baby and I would only leave him out about 20 min but maybe tomorrow.
We only live about 5 hr south of Chicago and I agree with you. I hope it isn't snowing...
It is 65 degrees outside today in Southern Indiana on the first day of feb!! It sounds crazy but it is true and I just wondered if it is warm enough to take my Russian outside today to get some exercise. What to you guys think?
Thanks!
Michelle
hi! I have a Russian tort and I have flat leaf parsley left over from a salad I was making and I wondered if could feed it to him. Is it ok for him?
I have not read anything on line that would tell me if it is ok for his system
Thanks!!
Hi!
We are getting ready to go away for a short 3 day vacation. We have a pet sitting for our dogs but she knows nothing about torts. I wondered if anyone has any advice on how to feed him while we are gone. Can I just feed him once a day for those three days instead of the 2 times he is used...
Thank you
He seems to like his meals spread out during the day
I'm trying to get to the point where I feed him twice a day and that's it
It will be much easier to get him some extra exercise in the summer when we can take him outside but right now he can wonder in his enclosure but occasionally...
Thank you! Do you recommend just feeding him a large amount once a day at the same time every day and let that be it for the day?
Also, where should I let him roam for exercise?
Thanks again!!
Michelle
Hi again!
My first posts were because I could not get Harry my new Russian to eat. Now I am concerned about how much he eats!!
Our original schedule was he would start to root around his dish around noon so I would give him a large bowl of mixed greens then and he would eat almost everything...
Thank you guys! I just don't want me little girl to put her hand and there and get chomped :)
He sure did come running when I opened the door and made me a tad nervous :D
I am going to spend more time handling him now that he is settled. Then that might help him associate my hands with more...
