Where are you? I have a bookcase enclosure that I am retiring. My four CDTs have an outdoor pen now and I don't see me using this one again. It is 3 ft wide and 7 ft long. Divided into two sections and already lined with heavy tarp. I have it on a raised base which you are welcome to as well. I...
I woke up my four CDT's over the weekend in SO Cal. The weather has been so up and down I delayed. Oh, the joy! I saw the first poop in the pen this morning so three more to go.
How weird is it that I am looking for tortioise poop in the morning? I know this group will understand.

Michael Jackson's Aldabra (name is also Michael) is supposed to be there according to it's caretaker if all goes well. Sharon is also bringing some Galops and a big Sulcata also. You will be able to take your picture with the torts for a small donation.
When we moved into our house 25 years ago the weirdest thing I found was a tortoise! We took the house in the winter and the following Spring I found what I now think was a CDT wandering in the back yard. I knew nothing and let him wander and he disappered. I think the former owner could not...
I pulled these two in from outside and popped them into a warm bath. Nothing fancy just their standard soak.
They settled down and after a few moments the one on the left began to move his front legs and shift about like he was trying to climb out. It was a little deep so I picked him up...
For 25 years I have ignored my back yard and paid a gardener. Get a couple of CDTs and now I am planting and fighting bugs and worrying about pesticides.
I put in some hybiscus and a Chinese Lantern among others so now I have snails, whitefly and aphids.
I talked to a Master Gardener and...
Basking Embryos
Life's a beach. And then you... hatch?

I always stroke their shells' before I pick them up so I don't surprise them. Two of mine are fairly new to me and at first they always retreated and hissed when I touched them. They are used to it now and I have noticed they don't startle as much before I pick them up. So even if they don't ask...
If your roommate will not listen, try looking up pictures online of dog chewed torts. Show her what a dog can do to a tortoise and maybe she will see reason. Here is one to start: http://blogs.sandiegozoo.org/2010/01/26/family-dog-loves-pet-tortoise-too-much/
Trouble is going to live a long...
There is going to be a tv show on tonight devoted to the Ca Dessert Tortoise.
The title of the show is SoCal Connected : Desert Tortoise; 50 Things. This will be the first airing so it is a new program. We watch broadcast TV (no cable by choice) and it will be on channel 28.1.
Broadcast...
As I have recently learned, to my dismay, watch it if Sheldon goes into the corners and works at them. Mine have torn through the shower curtain and I am working up to taking out all the substrate, redoing the corners and blocking them somehow.
I picked them up the end of June so I have had them about four months. It was their idea to sleep not mine. I checked on them today. I had to wake them up and they both looked at me. I am going to tear apart their indoor enclosure and make some changes while they are "away".
Thanks Angela.
I have two CDTs, Gordo and Twitch, who really want to hibernate. They are 3-3.5 years old and the former owner told me they have gone down before. This is my first time and boy am I nervous. They stopped eating a few weeks ago and both of them have lost weight. Twitch was at a high of 322 grams...
