I accidentally ordered a big bag of Mazuri Forest and tropical species for my 50lb sulcata. Will it hurt her? Can I get away with feeding it to her if I go back to the desert tortoise food when it’s gone or should I just take the $50 loss?
What should I use to heat the smaller box?
Man it was a chore getting it off the trailer. It weighs about 10k pounds How about what to put on the floor? Cypress mulch?
I got an insulated truck body with an aluminum floor. It used to have a refrigeration unit on it, so is well insulated on all sides. Side doors and full back door. It will be my 50lb sulcata winter home. It’s 24’ long and I can put a partition in so as not to heat the whole thing. I intend on...
Oh great. And here I thought it was so great that she can’t dig it up. There is insulation under the hard back. That s why I used it I used to keep the water dish in the corner and it made that corner wet and soft so she said watch this-I can dig out of this place. Not so much, it’sa closed...
Oh thank you! It got to 60° today and when I opened the lid this evening she had eaten good and was at the water bowl. I will double check tomorrow s as it is supposed to get back down to winter temps.
I Have a 40 pound sulcata. We live just south of Kansas City.
in summer she is outside 24/7 in a 10x10 pen I move around as the grass gets eaten down. An upside down dog house bottom provides a house and shelter. In winter she goes in her indoor house. It is a3x6 galvanized box that is then...
Now its a year and a half later. She is finally growing! Doubled in weight and inch in length and much more of a dome to her shell. She does not like Mazuri however. That has not been a problem yet but winter is fast approaching so weeds will be harder to find. Back to spring mix. Anyway...
Here is my winter box. It is made of a galvanized airconditioning box. Lined it with insulation then plywood.. The top is lined plywood with a uvb light on a timer. The oil radiator heat keeps it toasty and even has decent humidity. We also cut a drop down door but havent used it as it is...
Here it is. I think my son did a great job. The box is something he got at work, he is an insulator. It is some sort of galvanized ductwork and sure cut some work out. 3x6x21" I was going for 4x8 but considering the convenience its perfect. He said I got the wrong kind of insulation but...
